Begović MOTM Against West Brom

Asmir Begović put in a Man of the Match performance for Stoke City against West Bromwich Albion yesterday, helping his side to a 1-1 draw. West Brom’s goal came from a set piece, with Carlos Vela narrowly beating the offside trap – there was little that Begović could do about it. Outside of that, however, our possibly-estranged international put in a flurry of fantastic saves in the closing minutes of the match to keep his side in it. Goal.com crowned him “Top of the Match” and had this to say:
Saved Stoke a point with two terrific late block but kicking was suspect yet again – an area the ambitious Bosnian will have to work on if he is to ever be a top ‘keeper higher up the table. Made a string of fine stops in the second half, including a deflected Dorrans header and a decent Brunt smack. Powerless to prevent Vela from stroking it home for the equaliser.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports was even more effusive in their praise, handing Begović a 9 for his “outstanding saves.” It just remains to be seen how Asmir’s good form in club competition will influence manager Safet Sušić following his repeated disciplinary issues with the national team.
