News round-up 2

By: Harun | December 31st, 2008 | No Comments »

- Said Husejinović has announced that he will no longer play for the national team as long as Miroslav “Ćiro” Blažević is manager. This news has come out of nowhere, as I don’t think anyone had any idea that Husejinović was upset with the current situation. He claims, however, that he resents not being called up and receiving playing time.

Džeko to Milan?

By: Harun | December 21st, 2008 | 1 Comment »

In some of the more appetizing transfer speculation in recent months, AC Milan is said to be interested in Wolfsburg’s Edin Džeko. Take it all with a grain of salt, but a lot of information has come out over this recently and I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal was eventually reached.

Vedad Ibišević and the golden shoe: how far can he go?

By: Harun | December 9th, 2008 | 3 Comments »

It might sound like the name of some twisted fairy tale, but we’re almost halfway through the season and it’s pretty clear that Vedad Ibišević’s success is not a fluke. Yes, he plays for a team that’s just looking to score one more than its opponent, and no, he hasn’t dribbled past ... [read]

I hate this man and so should you

Ante Aracic - mid-table player and world-class assholeHate is a strong word. After all, I’ve never actually met Ante Aričić or anything. But then again, I’ve heard plenty about him and would have a lot to say if I did.

Squad overview: Backs

By: Harun | December 3rd, 2008 | 1 Comment »

No – I’m not dead. Unfortunately, college exams really cut into the time I have to work on this blog. My schedule is looking a little better now, so here’s the second (of… four?) squad overview post. This time I’ll summarize the situation in Bosnia’s back line, which is by far the weakest part of the team. Our fortunes in ... [read]

Slovenia 3 – 4 Bosnia

By: Harun | November 19th, 2008 | 2 Comments »

Well, the game just finished: a well deserved victory for Bosnia in the middle of Slovenia. It just goes to show that, for all the problems surrounding us, we’re still a footballing country. Ibišević set the tone early, scoring in the 2nd minute, and then drew a penalty about 15 minutes later, which Misimović converted for 2:0. A lapse in ... [read]

Bosnian Football: a (not so) Brief History

By: Harun | November 13th, 2008 | Comments Off

I told myself I’d keep this short. I failed. Summarizing the early days was easy enough, but glossing over the details that I’ve lived through myself proved too difficult. This will probably be the longest post I’ll ever write, but I’ll try to make it up to you by linking to assorted Youtube goodies along the way. Sound good?

Kenan Hasagić - Typically dependable, occasionally recklessI’m going to go out on a limb and assume that most of you at the World Cup Blog aren’t overly familiar with the names on Bosnia’s roster. And you know what? That’s Ok. Because starting with this post, I’ll try to give you guys a ... [read]
